Humility can be humiliating!

"My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore, judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God"
I CORINTHIANS 4:4-5

"The greatest detriment to your spiritual growth and leadership potential is you. The one common thread for every underperforming sector, division, or problem in your church or family is you. Admit it and grow. Deny it and continue on a self- defeating path of irrelevance and ineffectiveness. Maturity is synonymous with humility. To be humble is to listen to the input and critique of others and sincerely factor their input despite feeling that your conscience is clear. To have a clear conscience and be willing to accept criticism and re-evaluate your perspective is a great exercise of humility. Humility is intoxicatingly attractive and greatly enhances one’s leadership effect".

I love the description in this devo of what it means to be humble! To paraphrase: Being humble (for Maddie) means to set aside any pride and allow the critiques of others to penetrate the self-idolizing bubble that my mind can get in sometimes. To desire to grow from others input instead of being offended at someone for offering a different perspective. For "He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of [my] heart".

I see this a lot in my previous years of serving out on the water. Each culture point is very impactful and very necessary to comprehend for our time serving, and even in our daily life with Christ. These culture points are not like the culture points of the world, which is why they work so well in the context of communion with Christ! I encourage all of us to embrace this culture that serving with and for Christ brings, and to be open to receiving the gifts that come with them!
