Surrender to the Good

I felt like May 14th's devotional on strength and firmness was a much needed reminder: stop trying to master the good and surrender to the good! I feel like so often I focus on mastering the good, thinking "if I'm just able to get this one thing right..." but that's so far off from God's plan. God invites us to be sustained by his freely offered life. Nowhere in that invitation is the requirement to figure life out for ourselves. And that's such good news!! We were created with a longing for the good. When I choose to try to master the good, I'll come up short and try to supplement with the desire for credit and recognition. But trusting and surrendering to the good floods our lives with God's life blood, which is what we need to sustain us.
Also good news from the May 16th devo, when we feel like we've mastered the good, Christ offends us to a place of realizing that our knowledge of the good has failed us and our only choice is to trust to the good. My prayer is that I'd be offended into trusting the good in times where I am attempting to master it instead.
