Humility & Good Friday

Happy Good Friday everyone!  I have copied and pasted parts of today's reading below.  With the back drop of Good Friday (Jesus going to the cross), re-read some of these lines.

"If you agree to lead, you agree to serve. You can gauge your heart of service by how you react when someone actually treats you like one. How do you react when someone treats you with insults and disrespect?"

How did Jesus respond to insult and disrespect? Isaiah 53:7 - "He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so He did not open His mouth."   Matthew 27:12 "And when He was accused by the chief priests and elders, He gave no answer."

If you are in a position of widespread influence, you are called to serve. If you are in a position of little influence or recognition, you are called to serve. The position that you occupy is immaterial. The condition of your heart is essential.  Matthew 20:28 - Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

The wise leader understands that the path to genuine growth, maturity, loyalty, and development happens through creating a community of better servants.  John 13:14-15  - "You call Me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, because I am. So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example so that you should do as I have done for you.…"

May we choose to follow Jesus' example today and give ourselves away in self-giving-sacrifical-servant love.

Happy Good Friday!

Reid
