Prayer & Boldness

May 17:
Ephesians 6:18-20 talked about praying for the greater boldness in making the gospel known. The first thing that popped in my mind after reading this was "How does someone become bold enough to proclaim the gospel to others without praying first?”. As I reflect on the amount I pray, I question why I don’t do it more regularly. So often I’ll be in conversation saying “I’ll be praying for you”, yet days or weeks later I catch myself having never prayed for that person. Another part of this verse that convicted me was the word "boldness". Many times I find myself viewing God as someone who is stuck in the pages of the bible rather than someone living who is victorious over death, hell, and the grave. As a result, my acts of love, moments of faithfulness, or feats of courage are present, but are not always shown with a burning, holy passion in me that may be considered bold. This made me realize that boldness may be activated through prayer. I’m thankful this devotional has brought forward a greater awareness of my prayer habits because it explains why my boldness or fearlessness in declaring who Christ is may be handicapped.
